My TS140 has bitten the dust, with an intermitant, now nearly
permanent "unlocked" message. (actually ..- -. .-.. --- -.-. -.- . -.. ;-) )
Presumeably a vco or PLL has gone south, although the unit is old
enough for battery death.
Does anyone know of a good repair shop in the general Philadelphia
area (max 1-2hour drive)? or should i just ship the unit back to kenwood?

Hi, my name is Larry and my call is KE8GW. I have an ICOM 2410a
that exhibits an odd and intermittent problem. On the send and received
audio I get a low frequency rumble, much like the sound of the wind blowing
over the mic. This rumble doesnt seem to distort the regular audio but is
added to it. It mostly happens on the 2m side, but it may also occur on
the 440 side (I'm not sure). Has anyone ever experienced a problem like
this with their ICOM radio?
I'm about ready to send it in for service but I thought I would check with
the net wisdom and see what falls out.
Thanks for any help.
Larry, KE8GW

Anyone thinking of buying a used 'scope should ask themselves "What
about probes". This essential component of a 'scope has a tendency
to get lost. Tucker will sell you a 'scope, guarantee it to work,
and give you a copy of the manual but you may not get any probes with it.
Tucker does have probes available but they are not original equipment.
New probes from Tek' or HP are expen$ive. Probes also show up at
hamfests, both used Tek' probes and new Brand X ones.
Tucker sells (or did sell) used equipment in a couple of different
grades. Something like "as-is bargains" and "checked out" (or
something like that). I think they had the same warranty (90 days)
but you could expect some difference in quality. You might want
to ask.
Another problem with Tucker is price. You should consider their
prices as upper limits. You can go to a hamfest (or look here
in r.r.s) and find various individuals and dealers selling the same
things at lower or much lower prices. Some of the dealers check
out their equipment, others just sell what they find, so you need
to know who you are dealing with. If you buy from Tucker you are
paying for risk reduction. A "novice tinkerer" might want that.
My experience is somewhat limited, there is probably someone
out there who can add more....
